You may have considered borrowing to invest in property at some point, perhaps even building a portfolio with several properties over time. It can be a great step towards creating personal wealth. While there are, of course, some risks involved, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it; it means you need to make considered, sensible decisions based on your financial circumstances.
Whatever you do, try not to allow unhelpful habits to be the cause of your lack of action. To make 2020 a year of positive steps towards personal wealth, take a leaf out of property guru Michael Yardney’s book and make sure you’re practising healthy habits.
Be the pilot of your life
Your thoughts lead to your actions and your actions lead to your results. Start by thinking positively about where you want to be and the rest will follow – be the pilot, not the passenger. There are three types of people: those who make things happen, those who watch what happened and those who wonder what happened. Be in the first group and always look out for opportunities.
Make your time count
Successful people take action – they don’t waste time procrastinating. Fear of failure, fear of the unknown and not knowing where to begin are a few reasons why people procrastinate. But life is short so make it count – don’t give yourself an excuse not to start today.
Learn from your mistakes
What’s done is done. If you’ve made a mistake – don’t keep reliving it! Mistakes mean growth, so make yours count by learning from them and trying again. Many successful people have lost everything and started again. Keep moving forward – the past doesn’t determine your future.
Use positive self-talk
If you have a voice inside your head that says: “I’m not ready yet” or “I don’t know what I’m doing” – don’t listen to it! Instead, tell yourself you can do it. Feel the fear and do it anyway.
Don’t waste time worrying
Most things you fear will happen, never do – they are just monsters in your mind. Lighten up. Time spent worrying is time that could be spent identifying opportunities and taking action.
Don’t compare yourself with others
When you do this, you let the outside world control how you feel about yourself. Instead, strive to be the best you can be and look how far you’ve come. The world really is your oyster.
